Oogie Boogie Bash
Disney’s Best Halloween Party
Are you going to Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney’s California Adventure this year? Here’s exactly what to expect, from the trick or treat trails and characters to spooky snacks, rare villains, and a seriously cool parade. It was our first time experiencing this Halloween event and we’re sharing what we liked, what surprised us, and whether it’s worth it or not for families with kids.
Entry Tips: When Can You Get In?
Although Oogie Boogie Bash officially starts at 6:00 PM, the party ticket lets you enter from 3:00 PM. We arrived around 3:30 PM, giving us a couple of hours to ride some attractions and enjoy the park before the Halloween fun began.

Arriving at California Adventure
First things first, we picked up our treat bags and event map. These are essential for navigating the park with so many candy trails and character locations.
The atmosphere was incredible right from the start. Tons of people had gone all out on their costumes and there were some incredible outfits! Our personal favourites? A full on Roz from Monsters, Inc. and a hilarious Tamatoa & Hei Hei duo from Moana.
We went for a Disneybound style outfit this year, keeping it subtle (and cool in the heat), themed around Steamboat Willie and it actually got tons of compliments from cast members!

Trick or Treat Trails
We kicked things off at the Oogie Boogie treat trail which is one of the most iconic at Oogie Boogie Bash (and the one that gets the biggest queue later on!).
Each trail has multiple candy stops, some with 4 or 5! We picked up tons of treats really quickly like M&Ms, Craisins, Goldfish, Skittles, chocolate… you name it!
💡 Pro tip: If you’re a DVC member, there’s a bonus treat trail just for you in the Golden Vine House Welcome Home Center.
Characters on the Trails
We were honestly surprised by how great the character interactions were at the end of each treat trail.
Oogie Boogie was up on stage, bantering with guests and he was absolutely brilliant. Other treat trail characters included:
- Ernesto de la Cruz
- Agatha Harkness
- Syndrome
- Maleficent
- Hades
- Doofenschmirtz
- Yokai
- Judge Doom
All had incredible effects and some were hilarious, Ernesto de la Cruz was savage!!
Character Interactions
This event delivered some of the best character moments we’ve had at Disney:
- Oogie Boogie chatting with/roasting people
- Agatha asking questions about Wanda (Ollie had no clue!)
- Judge Doom trashing Toontown and toon sympathisers
- Syndrome explaining how his detachable cape works around Edna Mode’s “no capes” rule
Lines move quickly because not everyone stops, but you can if you want those special moments and a slightly longer interaction.
Outside of the trails there are tons more rare characters around the park and these all had PhotoPass photographers at them. We spotted:
- Pain & Panic
- Edna Mode
- Bo Peep
- Megara
- Cheshire Cat
- Prince Hans
- The Sanderson Sisters (Minnie, Daisy & Clarabelle!)
- And we managed to meet Luca, who was great fun, especially chatting about how close he was to the water!
💡 Pro tip: You only get one photo set per group at the meet and greets so plan who’s in the shot! You can queue again if you want a second round.

The Frightfully Fun Parade
Later in the night we made our way to Pixar Pier for the Frightfully Fun Parade. There was a bit of a delay but it eventually started and it was so worth it. You’ll see the Headless Horseman, Mickey & friends and all the best Villains!
Ollie got a special moment with Mickey Mouse when he came over to fist bump him as he passed and realised that he was dressed as Steamboat Willie, totally made Ollie’s evening!
While we loved it, we personally prefer the Boo to You parade in Walt Disney World but this one is still a must do!
Villains Grove: A Must-See Light Trail
“Villains Grove” is a walkthrough experience through the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail. It’s not scary, just incredibly atmospheric with fog, lighting, projections and a really immersive soundtrack. It really came alive after dark and gave us serious “why don’t they do this in every country?” vibes.
💡 Pro tip: Head here during the parade for shorter queues and a few less people on the trail
Snacks & Special Treats (extra cost)
We tried the Oogie Boogie cookie, a chocolate chip treat topped with green buttercream. Honestly? It was better than expected. Soft, rich and kind of like a thin num num cookie.
There were a few other themed snacks only available at Oogie Boogie Bash that we spotted, including dark chocolate Mickey waffles with an Ube custard filling, so sad we missed these because they don’t list all the event treats in the app.

Final Ride: Monsters After Dark!
To finish off the night, we somehow ended up on Guardians of the Galaxy: Monsters After Dark which has become one of Ollie’s new favourite rides! It was an intense but great way to end our night at Oogie Boogie Bash.
Is Oogie Boogie Bash Worth It?
Absolutely. It may be a pricey event but from the rare characters and mountains of candy to the live entertainment and immersive atmosphere, Oogie Boogie Bash is easily one of the best after hours Disney events we’ve ever done.
✅ Pros:
- Short lines for candy & characters
- Incredibly fun character performances
- Themed snacks and exclusive treats
- Amazing atmosphere and costumes
- Great for kids and adults
🚫 Things to know:
- Some characters only offer brief interactions
- No official PhotoPass at the treat trail characters
- Special event snacks not clearly marked in the app (you have to go to the locations to see what is available)
- You’ll have so much fun the five hours will go by in the blink of an eye and you’ll wish you had longer!
